Frequently asked questions

Q: I noticed your site says you do online therapy. Do you ever offer in-person sessions?

A: I offer confidential and convenient online (secure video platform) psychotherapy for busy individuals who live in New York State. Since I am exclusively online, there is no commute, no parking worries and no complicated office procedures involved.

Q: How long are the sessions?

A: The initial assessment for individuals is 75 minutes long and for couples it’s 90 minutes long. During that time, I will be gathering lots of information from you about your history,  what's going on now and what you want things to look like in your future after therapy. During that initial appointment, we will develop a plan together for what makes sense for you.  Following the assessment, the weekly time investment is 50-minute sessions for individuals and 60-minute sessions for couples. In order to really gain traction, I might suggest some therapy activities to do outside of the therapy room that can be beneficial to you. That could be in the form of listening to podcasts, reading a book or article, contemplating a specific question, doing self-care activities, or starting a new habit for yourself.  This time investment varies, may not be every week and, like participating in therapy, is totally optional on your part.

Q: Do you have evening or weekend appointments available?

A:  I have a limited number of evening and Saturday morning appointments available for ongoing weekly sessions. They typically book up far in advance, and are considered premium spots.

Q: How long will it take to see results?

A:   That’s honestly a tough one to answer. I like to help clients feel better as soon as possible. The idea is for you to learn more about how you can help yourself. There are no guarantees, and no perfect way to predict how long things will take as results will largely depend on your involvement and implementation of what you learn in therapy. The clients I work best with are people who are committed to the process, who follow through on work between appointments (if any), and who are willing to dig deep and take action on their own behalf. How ready are you to make a change?

Q:  Do you take my insurance?

A:  I’m an out-of-network provider and I'm happy to provide you with the information you need to verify your out-of-network coverage. This will help you to find out if you are eligible for partial reimbursement from your insurance company. I also provide a receipt for you after every session with all the required information on it for you to submit to your insurance company. Some of my clients use their health savings account funds to cover the cost of therapy and others check with their accountant to see if they can deduct therapy as an out-of-pocket health care expense.
